'Unseen Adversaries' is a short poem exploring the thought that we are our own worst enemy. This piece was one of my very first attempts at writing poetry; it holds a place in my heart for that very reason.
Limbs begin to quake.
Hold it together, don’t break.
Flames rage through every vein,
On the brink of going insane.
Heart rate increasing so violently,
Crimson coats the vision so vibrantly.
Fists clench – knuckles drain of blood.
The crazed fury begins to flood.
Sweat streams across the skin,
Resolve, determination to win.
Laughter echoes from the enemy,
Within the soul’s own anatomy.
Is it a hallucination, or is it real?
The greatest foe is revealed!
