Beautiful Illusion

This poem, 'Beautiful Illusion', centers on the theme that one falls in love much too quickly and then, when it dawns on them, they realize they cannot just walk away and pretend it's not there.  In addition, they do not want the one they love to walk away either.

In all honesty, for the life of me, I cannot remember what was going through my head when I wrote this. My guess is as good as yours.

Such a beautiful illusion, that of perfection.

The mask will fall, the cloud will clear,

Realization it has already become an infection.

For you, my prince, I shed a tear.

To even fathom the possibility of walking away,

So soon, so fast, fallen too far, can't just walk back.

Love is a predator, the victim - it's helpless prey.

Imagine feelings similar to a heart attack.

Next session's in play, the charade fails to fade,

Heart fails to accept the painful reality.

Body flares in denial, he's your perfect jade!

The thought of him leaving burns at your mortality.

Thoughts float through the burdened mind,

Slowly dawning upon those feelings - the ones of love.

Once had the idea but how could one be so blind?

Don't walk away, don't leave, don't fade my dove.
